The company touted the figure today, but didn't say when it plans to announce the highly anticipated Galaxy S III.

Samsung announced today that its Galaxy S II has sold quite well over the past 10 months.

According to the company, it has sold 20 million Galaxy S II units (Translate) since the device's launch last April. To put that figure into perspective, Samsung announced last July that it reached 5 million Galaxy S II unit sales 85 days after its launch.

Samsung's Galaxy S II was widely celebrated among reviewers and consumers alike, who liked the device's 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display, and 8-megapixel rear-facing camera. TheAndroid-based handset also comes with a 2-megapixel front-facing camera and the customer's choice of 16GB or 32GB of storage. It runs Android 2.3 (Gingerbread).

Surprisingly, the device's sales have been accelerating. Back in October, Samsung announced that it had sold 10 million Galaxy S II units during its first six months on store shelves. Now just four months later, it has doubled that.

That success might be the reason Samsung is reportedly balking at launching the Galaxy S III at Mobile World Congress next week. In fact, the latest rumor surrounding that highly anticipated device suggests it won't even launch until May.

Despite the Galaxy S II's success, it's no match for Apple'siPhone. The Cupertino, Calif.-based company announced last month that it sold 37.04 million iPhones last quarter, alone.
