The Swann Wireless DJ Doorbell Customizes Your Door's Ringtone, Rings Up to 330 Feet Away [Video]

If your doorbell is too loud, inaudible, or just boring, the Swann Wireless DJ Doorbell lets you customize it with any MP3 file. Even better, it rings wirelessly so you can put the receiver in any location you want (up to 330 feet away).

The device works with a doorbell that you can stick on to any doorframe (or wherever—technically it'll stick to your face, too) and a receiver that's actually an MP3 player. The receiver comes with 32 built-in tones, but to add your own you'll need to provide it with an SD/SDHC card. Although I'm not sure why you'd want to store up to 32GB of music in your doorbell, you can! If 600 songs will do, you can get a 2GB SD card for under a dollar. You really only need a single tone to customize, but if you want a little variety you've got the option. Both the doorbell and the receive run off AA batteries, so you'll need to change them out once in awhile. It also won't wire into your existing doorbell system, so it's clearly for people who want a no-hassle setup. If you've got a problematic doorbell or just want one you can customize, check it out.

IceFloor Supercharges and Customizes the Default Mac OS X Firewall [Mac Downloads]

Mac OS X Lion: The built-in firewall utility in OS X is pretty powerful, but it doesn't offer a lot of configuration options if you want to tweak the settings. IceFloor is an app that allows you to customize the default firewall in a wide variety of ways.

The nice thing about IceFloor is that it doesn't do its own work. It simply taps into the default settings of Lion's firewall and allows you to customize it however you like. It's essentially a user interface for a running a bunch of commands through Terminal. The main settings pannel allows you to toggle access for simple tasks like screen sharing or iTunes sharing. The advanced options let you create white lists, black lists, and even add custom TCP ports and advanced filtering. If you like the idea of Lion's firewall but need more options, IceFloor is a great tool. It's a free download from the developer's site.
