Forward Selected Emails From Specific Senders in Gmail

Almost every email service provider whether HotMail, Yahoo Mail, AOL Mail or Gmail provides email forwarding service. Although in some portals, only premium users have access to such a service but generally this type of service is provided free. With the use of email forwarding service a person can forward all the emails received by him on one email address to another email address. In this post we will see how can we forward emails from a specific sender or those containing specified keywords to another email address.

An Overview of Email Forwarding

As told in the stanza above email forwarding is a service of mail servers that allow automatic forwarding of an email to any other email address. The concept is clearly based upon SMTPcommunication of one mailing server to another. In comparison with other features like POP or IMAP email access, this feature is very different. As POP3 and IMAP4 allows a person to access emails on client software like Microsoft Outlook Express, Office Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird, email forwarding has nothing to do with client tools. It is just a server side specification. In some email web services like Gmail or mail servers like Microsoft Exchange Server, you also get the ability to keep a copy of emails in your original inbox too.
In this tutorial we will filter emails with specific criteria like sender or receiver email address or predefined keywords and configure Gmail to forward only these emails to a forwarding email address.
1. Log into your Gmail Account and from the Top right corner of the screen – Click Mail Settings.
2. In the mail settings console – Go to the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab – Here in the forwarding section – click Creating a filter link.
3. In the Create a Filter Section – Type in the criteria for your inbox filtering and click next step.
4. In the next step – check Forward it option and then select the email address to which you want to forward these emails and click Create Filter.
